At Alconbury we appreciate that some of our guests may have particular needs and we have adapted our Bed and Breakfast to meet these needs as well as we can. We are always happy to discuss the individual needs of guests and will do our best to accommodate anyone who wishes to stay with us. We are delighted to have been awarded the NAS M1 and H1 awards.
REGISTERED SERVICE DOGS ARE WELCOME and we can provide a dog bed and feeding bowls. Pets are not however allowed in order to cater for guests with allergies.
ACCESS TO THE HOUSE
Kent Guest House
- Off road level car parking for up to two cars lit by security light
- Free on road parking directly in front of front door
- Straight level path to front door
- 4 inch step into porch and then a threshold through front door into hallway
- Front door width 31 inches / 79 cms
- Reception area has seating and the dining room leads off from the reception on the same level
- The Yale lock on the front door has a large rubber handle to facilitate opening and we also have a front door key fitted with a special projecting handle to facilitate operation. An extra front door key is available if required
ACCESS TO THE FIRST FLOOR
- All guest bedrooms are on the first floor
- Access to the first floor is via a fully carpeted staircase. All stair steps measure 7 inches/18cms in height and are 35 inches/89cms in width. There are 15 steps to the first landing and 2 further steps to the upper landing
- There is a solid wooden handrail running up both sides of the first seven steps and then a solid wooden handrail on the left hand side of the remaining steps
- The landing area is well lit and fitted with a smoke detector and has a solid wood banister running the length of it
- The floors are polished wood with rugs and non-slip underlay. Rugs may be removed if required
- Please note there is no lift or electric stair chair or ground floor bedroom
BEDROOM
We have adapted one bedroom, the Balcony Suite, to suit the needs of less able guests. It is a very large two roomed suite with plenty of room to move around easily. The door handle into the bedroom is an easy to operate lever type and the room can be locked from the inside by an easy to operate two way lever bolt which can be opened from the outside in an emergency. The bedroom doorway is 28inches/ 71cms wide.
The first room of the Balcony Suite has twin beds with orthopaedic mattresses, one of which has a memory foam topping. The height of the beds to the top of the mattresses is 26inches/65 cms and both beds have a headboard and a footboard. We have a grab rail which can be fitted to either side of either bed. Both beds have electric blankets and anti allergy bedding. We also have a variety of pillows available including memory foam. If required we can provide a multi-position back rest for one of the beds as well as extra blankets.
There are two bedside tables with bedside lights one of which has a dimmer switch. Both a vibrating pillow alarm clock as well as an extra loud alarm clock with flashing lights are provided although we are happy to wake guests if required. There is also a hairdryer and an electric cooling fan for hot weather and both are fitted with easy grip plugs.
For your peace of mind we can provide a hand held push button panic alarm which can be worn around the neck and which sounds an alarm to alert us wherever we are in the house. The bedroom is also fitted with its own smoke detector complete with a bright light. A balcony leading from the bedroom would be easy to escape onto in the event of a fire.
There is a high backed armchair with a solid cushion seat 18inches/46 cms high. Next to this chair there is a tall free standing reading lamp that can be turned on and off by tapping the stem. There is also a multi position foot rest.
A circular dining table and chairs means guests my take breakfast in the bedroom. We can also provide snacks at other times which may be eaten in the bedroom. Meals may of course also be eaten in the dining room downstairs.
The bedroom has a 22” flat screen television with remote control and a DVD player. (There is also a much larger 26” flat screen television in the guest lounge downstairs as well as another DVD player). A desk in the Balcony Suite, with a swivelling armchair, affords access to a hard wired internet access point complete with connecting cable. If required we can supply a large button telephone which is hearing aid compatible. The desk has a desk lamp and a DAB radio.
There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room with a push button instant water boiler and mugs with easy grip handles.
EN SUITE FACILITES
A pedestal basin 30inches/77 cms high has red and blue plastic tap levers as well as an adjacent chair. A bathroom cabinet with a mirror is fitted over the basin and there is an electric shave point. There are also two full length mirrors. There is a glass, outward opening door and a rise of 6 inches/16 cms to access the shower tray. The shower is 34inches/87 cms square and there is a large grab rail attached to the wall within the shower enclosure. We can provide a height adjustable shower stool with grab handles and a non slip rubber mat. There is a repositionable wall mounted soap dish. The toilet is separate but still within the room so affording a measure of privacy if required. There is a support rail around the toilet and we can also supply a raised toilet seat complete with its own lid. This will raise the toilet to a height of 22inches/56 cms.
We have menus and information available in large print and are also able to provide a large, adjustable, free standing magnifying glass. If required we can provide coloured towels and coloured mugs.
We are more than happy to cater for special diets and we can accommodate most medication in our fridges. Electric sockets are just above the high skirting boards at a height of approximately 15inches/38 cms above floor level.
